This Project Manager job in Toronto offers the opportunity to lead residential construction and property development projects across Toronto and Ontario. The role is with a respected construction consultancy providing construction project management and cost consulting services across Toronto and Ontario.
The Construction Project Manager will work closely with a private developer expanding its property portfolio across Toronto. Projects will include senior housing developments, supported living accommodations, student housing and other residential developments located in Toronto and the surrounding areas of Ontario.
The role will involve delivering construction projects from concept and feasibility through procurement, construction and final completion.
The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality residential developments in the Toronto construction market.
Responsibilities and Duties
The Construction Project Manager will be responsible for delivering residential construction projects in Toronto from the early design & planning stages through to completion.
The role requires strong client-side project management skills and experience delivering residential development projects within the Toronto construction industry (or transferrable experience from elsewhere).
- Deliver client-side construction project management services on residential developments in Toronto and across Ontario
- Manage residential development projects including senior housing, supported living and student accommodation
- Lead projects from feasibility, design development and planning through construction and completion
- Manage procurement and tendering processes for contractors and consultants
- Evaluate contractor tender returns and provide procurement recommendations to the client
- Provide contract administration and construction phase project management services
- Lead commercial claims management, contractor negotiations and dispute resolution where required
- Coordinate multidisciplinary project teams including architects, engineers, contractors and consultants
- Maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring high levels of client satisfaction and repeat business
- Act as the main client contact for project delivery, providing updates on project progress, risks and issues
- Provide regular reporting to senior leadership within the consultancy
- Lead project teams and mentor junior staff members
- Maintain quality standards across all project deliverables
- Support internal professional development initiatives including APC support for team members
Desired Skills and Experience
The ideal candidate will be a highly experienced Construction Project Manager with strong residential development experience in Toronto or similar international markets.
Candidates must demonstrate experience delivering residential construction projects from concept through completion.
- Approximately 15+ years of experience in construction project management
- Strong experience delivering residential developments including senior housing, care or student accommodation
- Proven experience managing construction projects from inception through completion
- Experience providing Employer’s Agent or client-side project management services as well as having site construction experience with a contractor or developer
- Strong understanding of construction procurement and tendering processes
- Experience administering construction contracts and managing project delivery during the construction phase
- Demonstrated experience managing claims, contractor negotiations and dispute resolution
- Strong leadership experience managing project teams and mentoring junior staff
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Experience building strong client relationships and securing repeat work
- Experience working with developers, registered providers, private clients or public sector organisations
- Toronto or Ontario construction project experience is desirable, although international candidates with transferable experience may be considered
- Candidates must have the legal right to work in Canada
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
- Degree qualified in construction management, project management, engineering, quantity surveying or a related construction discipline
- Professional membership, such as RICS, PMP or equivalent, is desirable
- Eligibility to work in Canada is essential
