Museum of the Future: Construction Project in Dubai

Posted by Richard Poulter on Monday, September 26, 2016

Exciting professional opportunities are opening up in the construction of the Museum of the Future in Dubai. All the usual opportunities for quantity surveyors, project managers, planners and more will be needed for this forward-thinking, design-lead project.

The Museum, which is due to be complete and open by 2018, will be 'futuristic in every sense of the word.' Endorsed by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the museum will act as a laboratory for innovation and research. Its focus will be on the future possibilities in education, health, smart cities, energy and transportation. Not only that, but the plan is to change the contents of the museum every six months to ensure they stay ahead of the game.

Forward-thinking Technology

In line with this thinking, it will come as no surprise that the construction itself will use the latest technique: 3D printing. This should offer exciting prospects for interested candidates to work with this new technology.

The building itself will look futuristic. It will have a 'curved, oblong, oval-shaped structure' - hard to envisage without a picture; or maybe a video.

So for everyone who loves a challenge, this could be the opportunity for you. It may even take some of the headaches out of quantity surveying as this process should bring the build in on a much lower budget and in a tighter timescale. Bar teething troubles perhaps.

Environmentally Positive

If you're concerned about the environment, it is known that the 3D printing process for construction can save as much as 30-60% of construction waste and save production time by anything from 50-70%. Although with a budget of $136million, no mean sum, you may question this necessity.

Want to be Involved?

Get in first before 3D printing becomes the construction norm. So for all of those construction professionals from quantity surveyors to claims directors to project managers interested in working in the UEA, and in new technologies, this is a great opportunity.
