MEP Senior Quantity Surveyor
MEP Senior Quantity Surveyor job role with a top-tier UK-based civil engineering and rail contractor on their JV High Speed 2 (HS2) construction project in London. The location of this work will be in North Acton and West Ruislip.
Suitable candidates will have experience managing MEP, Buildings or Design packages.
Project Details
MEP Senior Quantity Surveyor responsible for both the Contract and Subcontract administration of Design & Build suppliers and will be working within the MEP commercial team but expected to work closely with all sections of the MEP Team .
This role reports to the MEP Commercial Manager. The MEP Senior Quantity surveyor will be responsible for the commercial MEP fit-out across HS2 S1 and S2 lots.
The location is split between North Acon and West Ruislip portal. 4 days in the office and 1 day working from home.
Responsibilities and Duties
Assist in managing commercial personnel responsible for:
- Main contract management and administration
- Supply chain management, including contract administration
- Cost capture and control, including completion of the CLR
- Commercial reporting
- Aid in cash management
- Liaise and negotiate with the clients commercial and project teams
- Establish and maintain productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Assist the commercial manager in preparing and issuing periodic valuations and reports according to deadlines
- Ensure commercial records are maintained as per contract requirements and oversee any contractual issues
- Provide guidance and support to the commercial team, developing staff skills and competencies for succession planning
- Comment on and draft subcontract works information and tender documentation
- Draft subcontract data and assess subcontract scope to draft pricing schedules
- Review tender documentation for consistency and compatibility with contractual and project requirements
- Assist the commercial manager in setting strategies for and responding to tender queries
- Oversee subcontracts for governance and execution
- Provide commercial support for significant subcontract packages through to final certification
- Assist with budget setting, forecasting, and reporting
- Support the MEP team in the ECI subcontract through the design phase and contract negotiations
- Identify MEP delivery team resource requirements and assist in recruiting necessary resources
- Contribute to MEP-related procurement to ensure timely delivery
- Support the development and submission of construction phase plans for MEP works
Desired Skills and Experience
- 3 years minimum of Senior Quantity Surveying experience
- Experience managing MEP, Buildings or Design packages
- Post-graduate commercial experience in the construction industry with demonstrable track record of achievement
- CSCS card
- Demonstrable financial and commercial acumen
- Proven negotiating and team-working skills demonstrating the ability to motivate, develop and lead teams to deliver to or above target levels of performance
- Extensive experience of technical minute taking at contractual meetings and able to demonstrate the ability to collate information, prepare reports, payment certificates and interim financial reports and closeout reports.
- Demonstrable legal, contractual and construction knowledge and experience
- Experience in implementing and delivering strategic objectives and associated change programmes
- Experience of developing & implementing procurement and contract strategies
- A creative, strategic and innovative approach to problem-solving
- Strong analytical skills
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
- A degree in Quantity Surveying or similar
- MRICS or MCInstCES is desired but not essential
