Project Details

As Senior Cost Consultant you will work on large-value, high-profile projects across multiple sectors, such as mixed-use, commercial, offices, institutional and residential.

The successful candidate will be based from the employer’s office in Ottawa, Ontario with the flexibility to work from home as this premium consultancy supports hybrid working arrangements.

Senior Cost Consultant is needed to start as soon as possible.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Read and interpret the blueprints, maps, drawings and specifications
  • Conduct and complete site inspections and reports including photographs
  • Prepare and undertake periodic reviews of progress claim reports, including submitting invoices, valuation of changes, analysis of progress on site and recommendation of loan advances
  • Prepare budget reviews through detailed analysis of development proposals with comprehensive knowledge of typical Lender’s requirements and terms of engagement
  • Establish spatial analysis for a sector of buildings
  • Understand the project cash flow and financing requirements
  • Be aware of market intelligence and market rates for construction and different procurement routes and contracts in the marketplace
  • Understand specialist consultant reports, impact on development proposals, and set up cost monitoring and reporting systems.
  • Accountable for coordinating workload and team resources;
  • Mentor junior to intermediate level team members;
  • Interact with peers and counterparts in the other regions to promote best practice techniques
  • Network regularly by utilizing local market knowledge to promote the business, cross-selling and building new contacts and clients
  • Prepare technical components and fees for proposals

Desired Skills and Experience

  • 8 to 12 years of relevant work experience as a Cost Consultant or Quantity Surveyor for mid to large-sized real estate and infrastructure projects
  • Advanced knowledge of specialist consultant reports and impact on development proposals
  • Advanced knowledge of the construction industry - development, contracting, and consultant services
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills combined with sound judgment and initiative
  • Great communication and report-writing skills
  • Team player, as well as the ability to work on own initiative
  • Must be able to manage client relationships
  • Organisation skills with ability to organise and priories work
  • Experienced in the use of Microsoft Office 360 e.g. Word, Outlook & Excel
  • Canadian driving license

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

  • Qualification to Degree level in a relevant cost or construction related subject is strongly desirable
  • Professional membership of the RICS or a similar equivalent professional body would be preferred
