Down South
Gatwick Airport - Gatwick Airport has confirmed that Vinci has won the Pier 1 contract valued at GBP184m. After Gatwick changed ownership 3 years ago, this is their largest capital investment. The new Pier is due to open in summer 2015.
Islington Tower - Three contractors battle for the GBP70m Islington Tower project. Ardmore, Sisk and Brookfield have all been invited to tender for the residential development and the winning contractor may be appointed before Christmas.
In The Middle
Great news for children! - Liverpool City Council plan on spending a whopping GBP170m on rebuilding 12 schools and investing in several others. Building work has already started on the first school and is planned to open in September 2013.
Football Crazy - Former Manchester United player Gary Neville has been given planning permission to building a 10 storey hotel with a five-a-side football pitch on the roof. The location of the hotel is next to Old Trafford funnily enough.
Up North
Scottish HubCo - Four contractors have won places on the final Scottish HubCo. Contractors Galliford Try, Kier, John Graham and Equitix will deliver over GBP600m of public sector projects for 14 public bodies in Ayrshire, Lanarkshire and Dumfries & Galloway.
Tunnelling - Scottish Water is open for business, they are on the search to find a contractor who can design and build a 5km sewer tunnel under Glasgow. There are potential issues for the winner as the tunnel will need to run through a section of old mine workings which may raise technical problems.
