The Excitement Is Building In Dubai (Once Again!)

This month, I take a look at the insatiable appetite for development which Dubai and the rest of the UAE appears to have, once again, in spades! (excuse the pun). The ubiquitous cranes continue to spin around the Emirate as construction companies in Dubai jockey for a slice of the action, which is wonderful news for Civil Engineers, Quantity Surveyors, Architects and Project Managers who may be thinking of cutting their teeth on the international construction circuit!
I will also let you know about some exciting new construction jobs in the Middle East which the Maxim Recruitment Team is currently working hard to fill.
Size Matters!
The pandemic created a significant dent in Dubai s development plans, affecting the entire construction industry’s supply chain, with construction projects halting overnight, international contractors pulling out of the region and local businesses going under, in a somewhat disturbing repeat of the events of the global financial crisis back in 2008.
Since the early 2000’s, the UAE has focused on economic diversification to reduce its dependency on the oil and gas sectors. Currently there is large scale investment in smart cities and technology, sustainable living and environmentally friendly infrastructure development as they strive to build efficient transport and logistics networks and reliable clean energy supplies.
The UAE’s construction market is forecasted to be worth US$41Billion in 2024 rising to US$51B in 2029.
In 2023, unsurprisingly, the residential construction sector accounted for the highest market share followed by the infrastructure construction sector. The numbers are impressive although the pipeline of projects in the UAE is only half that of its towering neighbour, Saudi Arabia.
Pipedreams Become Reality!
Let’s face it, Dubai already boasts an impressive skyline however a slew of new eye watering developments underway will surely take it up a further notch!
Ciel Tower
When completed this 365m behemoth under development in Dubai Marina will be the tallest hotel in the world, boasting 1042 luxury room and suites across 82 floors, a 300m atrium with vertically stacked landscaped terraces!
Maxim’s construction recruitment consultants have been asked by a thriving main contractor in Dubai to seek out a high caliber Senior Quantity Surveyor to join them and work on a prestigious residential tower development.
Wynn Al Marjan island
The Wynn integrated gaming resorts have already transformed Las Vegas and Macau and now set to transform the lesser-known emirate of Ras Al Khaimah into a very possible real estate gem location! With extensive gaming, entertainment, and retail experiences and a 1,000 luxury room exclusive spa, restaurants and lounges, this development underway is certainly creating a buzz!
Al Maktoum Airport
A little over 10 years ago, a Whizz Air A320 arriving from Budapest made headlines as the first commercial air liner to touch down at the Al Maktoum Airport. Since its inception, there have always been plans to make Al Maktoum Airport (also known as Dubai World Central), 30km from downtown Dubai, the largest and busiest airport in the world. This futuristic mega hub will ensure the Emirate’s role as a major node in the global economy and is still on track!
