I am looking forward to attending The Institute of Clerks of Works and Construction Inspectorate (ICWCI) Conference which will be taking place on Saturday 14th of May in Dublin this year. The 2022 event will be hosted by the ICWCI Dublin Chapter and will be held at the Castleknock Hotel.
This Conference gives a great opportunity for Clerk of Works members to get to know others in their field and to hear about the latest development in the site inspection sector. Additionally, non-members such as speakers, sponsors, exhibitors will be in attendance. For me it will be useful and insightful to attend the ICWCI Conference to network with likeminded individuals and to further expand my construction industry knowledge and network.
I run the specialist Clerk of Works recruitment division at Maxim Recruitment, and I have thoroughly enjoyed finding jobs for Clerk of Works with different construction companies in the UK, including construction Cost Consulting firms, Building Contractors and Local Authorities. My experience dealing with Clerk of Works and Site Inspector candidates has been pleasant; I find them professional and reliable candidates, which are well respected and appreciated in the construction industry.
In my experience being a member of The Institute of Clerk of Works and Construction Inspectorate (MICWCI) is highly desirable for all the Clerk of Works jobs that I have been recruiting for. Clerk of Works employers will favour Clerks of Works/ Buildings Inspectors that are members of ICWCI, as it demonstrates that they possess a certain level of professional standards, quality, and competence.
The Clerk of Works employers that I am working with prefer hiring on a permanent PAYE basis, as they see a higher value in bringing in someone permanently – offering candidates more security, stability and investment into individual through training, continuous professional development and career progression opportunities. In return, they expect loyalty, commitment to their construction business values and growth of the company, in turn contributing to company’s success.
If you are interested in starting out a career as Clerk of Works or Building Quality Inspector, then it is useful to check out goconstruct.org website. It is common to work in the construction industry as a tradesperson or a technician for several years before becoming a Clerk of Works. There is a good career option for experienced Site Managers to consider a move into Clerk of Works services. Other construction professionals who also enjoy overseeing of quality and compliance, health & safety, producing reports can shift to qualify as a Clerk of Works too.
