Posted by Scarlett Ku on Tuesday, July 21, 2015
I am a construction recruitment consultant who specialises in recruiting construction claims professionals for my premium clients in Hong Kong and across the Asia Pacific Region. I would like to give an overview of the best claims jobs I have at the current time to help you to see if coming to work in Hong Kong would be both a good career move and an exciting thing to do.
The claims jobs available are at a variety of levels; some require Cantonese language but most just require a good standard of written and spoken English.
Hong Kong Based
Some small and medium sized claims consultancies in Hong Kong provide contractual advice and analysis, claims management and dispute resolution services to Hong Kong clients. The consultancies work closely with main and sub-contractors in Hong Kong, therefore, they require experienced candidates with main contractor exposure. New Employees are seconded into clients’ offices or site to provide contractual and claims services. If you are from Quantity Surveying background and with something like 5-15 years solid claims experience, preferably with main contractor, they will be keen to speak with you! Projects will be mainly in civil engineering, railway and infrastructure sectors. Senior Consultants will need to work in clients’ offices independently and have proactive and client facing skills. Quantity surveying background with construction chartership, such as RICS, CIArb and further construction law knowledge/education desired.
Regional/Global Roles
Some international consulting firms now run their contract and claims business on a regional or global basis. They therefore can better utilize their consultants and resources of different regions by sending consultants to different location across the world for short term assignments. These companies provide full project life circle contract and claims services to their clients, which may include contract administration, claims management, dispute resolution and delay planning etc. They are looking for candidates who are flexible to travel and keen to specialize themselves in the contract and claims field. Candidates without/with limited claim experience but have good quantity surveying background and experience will be considered as junior consultant. More experienced candidates will be expected to travel and deal with clients frequently. Candidates with any project experience/ expertise are welcomed. Quantity surveying background with construction chartership, such as RICS, CIArb and further construction law knowledge/education desired.
What Are the Salaries and Packages on Offer?
Competitive salary and benefits will be provided for the right candidate. It’s highly negotiable depending on the candidate’s experience and qualification levels. The clients in Hong Kong tend to offer an all-inclusive salary/package meaning that no extra housing or allowance will be provided. On top of the salary, medical insurance, discretionary bonus and annual return home tickets (for expat candidates) and generous annual leave will be provided. Some companies also offer commission and bonus schemes.
