An expanding construction consultancy is seeking an Associate Director – Quantum to join its expert witness division.

Based in London (or remote with periodic London travel), you will lead quantum expert commissions, support dispute resolution proceedings and help grow the team’s profile. Ideal for a senior quantum professional progressing towards testifying expert appointments.

Project Details

The Associate Director will play a key role in leading, managing, and contributing to quantum expert commissions within a Forensic Expert Witness team. This includes shaping the approach to quantum analysis, presenting findings internally and externally, and driving efficiency and quality across deliverables.

Assignments typically support formal dispute resolution processes such as litigation, arbitration, and adjudication. The role may also include expert advisory work on live projects, settlement negotiations, and mediations in the UK and internationally. Project sectors may include building, civil engineering and wider infrastructure (specific projects not known).

Responsibilities and Duties

This is a senior leadership role focused on the delivery of high-quality quantum expert work, development of client relationships and the continued growth of the quantum offering.

  • Act as Quantum Expert on suitable instructions, or as lead assistant / No.2 on major, high-value disputes
  • Lead the preparation and delivery of robust quantum expert reports and supporting analyses
  • Provide strategic advice on quantum aspects of claims, counterclaims, settlement strategy and negotiation support
  • Present findings clearly to clients, counsel, tribunals and internal stakeholders
  • Contribute to senior leadership meetings and help shape service line strategy and resourcing
  • Support business development by promoting quantum expert witness services and building long-term client relationships
  • Mentor, train and develop junior staff, including quality assurance and coaching on report writing
  • Oversee team administration, workload planning and efficient use of resources
  • Work towards building a reputation as a testifying expert (where not already established)

Desired Skills and Experience

The successful candidate will be a credible, senior quantum professional with strong report-writing capability and the interpersonal skills to operate at senior client and legal stakeholder level.

  • Highly competent in writing quantum expert reports and presenting clear, well-evidenced opinions
  • Track record of acting as the lead assistant / No.2 on multiple expert appointments
  • Strong understanding of construction claims quantum (including valuation of variations, loss and expense, disruption, prolongation costs, damages and termination-related claims)
  • Experience across different markets and a range of construction and engineering projects and claims
  • Ability to develop and maintain a network of client and legal relationships (solicitors, counsel, funders and industry stakeholders)
  • Confident communicator with strong attention to detail and a quality-first mindset

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

  • Degree qualified (or equivalent)
  • Ideally Chartered with a relevant professional institution (e.g. RICS or similar)
  • Postgraduate study in construction law / dispute resolution (LLM / MSc) is advantageous but not essential
