A Senior Quantity Surveyor position with a leading ground engineering and geotechnical contractor in Toronto, Ontario.

Looking for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to start as soon as possible.

Project Details

By joining this employer, you will get the opportunity to work on some of the biggest ground engineering projects around Ontario.

Suitable candidates must be commercially acute, and able to work independently with arm’s length supervision.

This is a Toronto office-based position with the flexibility to work from home. Hours of work are 40 per week Monday to Friday.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • To provide comprehensive commercial support, by maintaining commercial information and ensuring projects and all aspects of the business unit are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Undertake pre and post contract quantity surveying and commercial duties, support the business unit Director and provide commercial situational leadership and guidance to quantity surveyors, office administration and operations teams.
  • Review project contract terms and tender / bid submissions and provide input into pricing strategy, qualifications and clarifications.
  • Lead contract negotiations in accordance with the Company's contracting rules and ensure timely execution prior to commencement, seeking guidance from the Commercial Director as needed.
  • Maximise cash flow and manage post-contract Quantity Surveying functions, ensuring all contract entitlements are secured with timely notices, valuations, and billings - liaising with and managing own staff, colleagues and customers accordingly.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • 5 to 10 years of experience
  • Previous experience working for a civil engineering groundworks or piling contractor would be ideal
  • Experienced practitioner / user of sector standard forms of contract including but not limited to NEC; NR; JCT; FIDIC.
  • Experience of managing and working with others including administration and others that together cover all pre and post-contract commercial requirements, ideally in a similar organisation or market sector.
  • Proactive in working with customers, colleagues, and other stakeholders, with strong written communication skills to present information, ideas, concepts, and positions clearly and confidently.
  • Highly proficient at using Microsoft office applications including but not limited excel; word; PowerPoint; teams; explorer; as well as web-based applications and ERPs.
  • Ability to work with and lead the commercial team to commercialise all aspects of the business
  • Possesses a rational, analytical, and objective approach to challenges, knowing when to direct, coach, support, or delegate.
  • A Full valid Ontario driving license

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

  • BSc in Quantity Surveying, Cost Management, Commercial Management or Project Controls or equivalent is desirable.
  • Professional qualifications obtained such as RICS or CICES or similar would be beneficial
