A well-established multidisciplinary construction consultancy is seeking a Senior Cost Manager in London to lead client-side cost management services across residential and social housing projects.

This London quantity surveying job is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor or Cost Manager to deliver strategic cost advice, mentor junior staff and work within a collaborative target cost environment, with flexible hybrid working available.

Project Details

The successful Senior Cost Manager will work on a varied portfolio of construction projects, including residential developments, social housing schemes and mixed-use developments.

Projects are delivered on a client-side basis and typically use collaborative and target cost commercial models, requiring strong cost planning, risk management and commercial governance expertise.

Responsibilities and Duties

This QS job is a senior client-facing role within a construction consultancy environment. Key duties will include:

  • Leading cost management services on key client accounts as Senior Cost Manager
  • Delivering cost planning, cost control and commercial governance using a target cost model
  • Providing strategic cost, value and risk advice to construction clients
  • Managing and administering projects operating under target cost and collaborative contracting arrangements
  • Undertaking commercial assessments, audits and reviews of contractor submissions
  • Assuring value for money and supporting informed commercial decision-making
  • Mentoring, supervising and delegating work to junior cost managers, apprentices and students
  • Supporting team resource planning and workload management
  • Contributing to business development, new commissions and service growth
  • Attending and leading client and stakeholder meetings, both in person and virtually
  • Preparing high-quality reports using Excel, Power BI and internal cost management systems
  • Working collaboratively with internal teams, clients and contractors to achieve successful project outcomes

Desired Skills and Experience

The ideal candidate for this quantity surveyor vacancy will have a strong background in construction cost consulting. Desired experience includes:

  • Proven experience (5+ years) as a Senior Cost Manager or Senior Quantity Surveyor (consultancy and/or contractor-side)
  • Strong experience delivering projects using a target cost commercial model
  • Experience working on large-scale residential or social housing construction projects
  • Demonstrated ability to lead project teams and mentor junior staff
  • Excellent numerical, analytical and commercial skills
  • Strong understanding of quantity surveying practices, procurement routes and contracts
  • Confident communication skills with the ability to manage senior client relationships
  • Proactive, well-organised and detail-focused approach to work
  • Ability to work effectively within a collaborative consultancy team environment

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

  • Quantity Surveying degree or equivalent
  • MRICS status or working towards chartership (desirable)
