Senior Cost Consultant
A new Senior Cost Consultant job opportunity with a premium small cost consultancy based in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. The successful candidate will prepare estimates and provide cost consultancy services across a range of building and infrastructure projects.
This role offers hybrid working, with flexibility to work from home for part of the week. It suits an experienced Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor looking for a stable, long-term position with a supportive employer and the opportunity to develop both professionally and personally.
Project Details
The Senior Cost Consultant will be responsible for preparing detailed construction cost estimates at various design and construction stages across a diverse portfolio of building and infrastructure projects.
Candidates with PQS / MRICS qualification or equivalent are preferred. The position offers hybrid working, typically 2 to 3 days from home, although more office time may be required initially during onboarding and familiarisation with company procedures.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Lead and deliver pre-contract cost management services on assigned projects
- Prepare cost estimates from feasibility through to pre-tender stages
- Develop unit cost rates from first principles
- Prepare and issue cost reports and supporting documentation for clients
- Liaise with clients, consultants, and design teams throughout project stages
- Gather and validate cost information from suppliers and contractors to support estimates
- Assist with change order reviews and cost analysis
- Prepare life cycle cost estimates and provide cost advice at all project stages
Desired Skills and Experience
- Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor, Cost Consultant, or Estimator with strong pre-contract expertise
- Excellent understanding of construction estimating processes and the wider construction industry
- High level of computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office 365; knowledge of Bluebeam is an asset
- Strong communication and written English skills
- Self-motivated, capable of working independently and as part of a collaborative team
- Analytical and creative problem-solving skills

Qualifications/Educational Requirements
- A degree or technical diploma in Quantity Surveying, Cost Estimating, or a related field is preferred
- Professional membership of RICS, CIQS, PQS, or an equivalent professional body is desirable
