This Senior Contracts Manager / Contracts Administrator job role is to provide contract administration, claims, risk management cost and contractual advice and support at all stages of major infrastructure, transit and rail projects from inception to completion.
Responsibilities and Duties
As the Senior Contracts Manager / Contracts Administrator, you will handle the review, negotiation and management of contracts from initiation to closure, including in respect of variations, claims, extension of time and applications for payment.
You will support the set-up, administration and close-out of major projects to ensure best for project outcomes, effectively and proactively managing contract claims and, where appropriate, both initiating and defending claims under contracts, and ensuring the legal team is effectively briefed, and develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to minimize contractual disputes.
Additionally, you will provide sound and insightful advice to the business on a variety of matters such as contract administration, scopes of work, Security of Payment legislation and providing training to relevant personnel.
You will develop effective contract management systems, procedures and tools to support the business. This role will also promote and upskill project managers in use of Contract User Guides and similar contract management tools,
You will develop strategies to identify, manage and mitigate high risk contracts. You will be expected to work effectively across the business units/functions to ensure consistency in contract management processes.
You will prepare contract claims and risk management reports for the business sector, and engage in agreed Continuing Professional Development (CPD),
Desired Skills and Experience
- A minimum of around 12 years’ experience is needed in contract management, administration, claims preparation, and rebuttal on major infrastructure projects, preferably Metro/LRT/transport-related projects
- Major international construction project and programs experience is essential, likely to have come from working on airport or mass transit (rail, metro, LRT) type projects
- Previous major project experience working in Canada, the UK, Australia or the Middle East is essential so skills and experience can be immediately transferred to the project methodology being used in Toronto, Canada
- A mixture of contracting and consulting background experience is preferable
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
- A Degree in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Construction Management, or similar
- LLM / MSc construction/ contract law is preferable
- Membership in recognized professional bodies (e.g., PQS, MRICS, MIOB) is preferred
- Membership (or Fellowship) in Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (MCIArb/FCIArb) is highly desirable
