This role will be major project / program based on site, working closely with the Project Director and Regional Commercial Director to provide leadership in cost and commercial management to a high-profile infrastructure project in Toronto, Canada.
Responsibilities and Duties
As the project Commercial Manager, you will collaborate with the project team comprising Commercial, Change Management, Operational, Technical, and Planning Teams on all commercial maters.
You will:
- Leverage expertise in CCDC, FIDIC or other standard forms of contracts to ensure compliance and project success.
- Effectively and proactively manage all commercial matters:
- Administer head contracts
- Undertake monthly cost and value analysis and reporting (client and business)
- Take responsibility for project communications, project controls and monitoring (CPI/EV)
- Administer sub consultancy agreements, payments, invoicing
- Review and prepare claims; from preparation of notice, record keeping, establish entitlement, validate data, demonstrate and prove time and costs, measure, quantify, submit, negotiate, crystalize disputes, & prepare briefing notes to commercial, counsel and management.
- Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to minimize contractual disputes
- Engage in Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
- Mentor and guide junior team members on contract management and claims best practices
Desired Skills and Experience
- A minimum of around 15 years’ experience is needed in contract management, administration, claims preparation, and rebuttal on major infrastructure projects, preferably Metro/LRT/transport-related projects
- Major international construction project and programs experience is essential, likely to have come from working on airport or mass transit (rail, metro, LRT) type projects
- Previous major project experience working in Canada, the UK, Australia or the Middle East is essential so skills and experience can be immediately transferred to the project methodology being used in Toronto, Canada
- A mixture of contracting and consulting background experience is preferable
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
- A Degree in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Construction Management, or similar
- LLM / MSc construction/ contract law is preferable
- Membership in recognized professional bodies (e.g., PQS, MRICS, MIOB) is preferred
- Membership (or Fellowship) in Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (MCIArb/FCIArb) is highly desirable
