A fantastic opportunity for a Senior Claims Consultant to join one of the UK’s largest multidisciplinary engineering business to work on claims and disputes in-house at their head office in Hull.
Project Details
The In-House Senior Claims Consultant will play a critical role in managing and mitigating contractual and commercial risks across the company’s projects.
The successful candidate will provide expertise in claims preparation, defence, and resolution while supporting project teams in minimizing disputes.
This role offers the opportunity to work closely with internal stakeholders, reporting directly to the Group Commercial Director gaining in-depth knowledge of the company’s projects and operations.
You will gain the opportunity to work across a variety of project types including rail, bridges, energy, and industrial facilities.
Responsibilities and Duties
As a Senior Claims Consultant you will report directly to the Group Commercial Director.
- Handle a variety of claims across several projects and sector
- Analyse and prepare claims for time extensions, variations, and additional costs.
- Provide guidance on contractual obligations, risks, and entitlements.
- Assessing claims under ongoing contracts, preparing defenses, and negotiating settlements.
- Act as an internal advisor, providing insights tailored to the specific needs and projects of the business.
- Interact with internal stakeholders, such as project teams, commercial managers, and legal departments.
Desired Skills and Experience
- A background in Quantity Surveying, ideally from a main contracting or sub-contractor background.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of typical Quantity Surveying duties
- Experience with Negotiations and Claims Settlements
- Some formal involvement in managing or supporting in a formal dispute (adjudication, arbitration, litigation etc.) would be advantageous.
- Experienced in providing professional construction commercial and contractual advice
- Well-presented and articulate individual with the ability to thrive in a client-facing role and communicate effectively with the client
- Good experience/knowledge of standard forms of contract such as NEC and JCT is essential
- Competent with Microsoft Office packages.
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
- Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Ideally A Masters in Construction Law and Dispute Resolution
- Professional memberships such as MRICS, MCIArb, or equivalent are desirable. Although full support can be offered to achieve this.
