Quantity Surveyor
A Quantity Surveyor is required to work for a leading regional main contractor on a utilities framework agreement in Birmingham. The successful candidate will work as part of a commercial team involved and become an integral part in the delivery of a large strategic project for a major utilities provider in the Midlands.

Responsibilities and Duties
• Ensuring the project and programme contract, cost, quality and time targets are met
• Ensuring prompt and regular submission of main contract payment applications and ensure that subcontractor payments are dealt with fairly and in accordance with subcontract terms
• Managing a robust Risk & Opportunities Schedule
• Supervising, mentoring and encouraging all subordinate staff in their personal professional development including PDP, welfare, safety and competency
• Undertake cost to complete / budget reviews with the contract delivery teams
• Attend internal and external commercial review meetings
• Negotiating with suppliers and subcontractors
• Manage the commercial aspects of subcontract accounts from procurement to interim and final account agreement
• Final account negotiation achieving the best possible outcome for the business
• Preparation of / assistance with the evaluation and submission of claims for variation works
• Working with the commercial and operational teams to strive for continuous improvement
• Maximising value and minimising cost, ensuring that appropriate controls are in place to monitor and manage the operating cost base
• Working with the operational teams to deliver and manage performance against the Profit Improvement Plan
• Manage commercial performance against business targets and KPI’s
• Ensure that the delivery team are briefed and have sufficient commercial support to monitor and react to budget variances
• Promote a culture of integration, continuous improvement and use of best practice across the client base
• Ensuring that cash flow is maximised including ensuring that payments are received on time
• Preparation of monthly management and financial performance reports
Desired Skills and Experience
- Candidates should have a worked as a Quantity Surveyor previously with experience of managing their own projects / packages of work
- Previous experience of working in the utilities / water sector previously is desired. However QS’s with experience in other civils related projects will be considered
- Good level of commercial and contractual awareness is essential
- Self-motivated individual with a high drive for success
- Strong client facing skills
- Excellent communicator with a high level of diplomacy
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
Hold a formal qualification in a relevant subject such as a HNC/HND/BSc

Basic Salary: £36k - £42k
