Project Details
The Canadian GO Expansion On-Corridor Works (or OnCorr), in Ontario comprises over 200 connected construction projects estimated to be of at least $16 Billion (around GBP£9 Billion) in value.
The development phase started in 2022, and design is mostly completed. Early works are starting alongside the development of the detailed civil engineering, station, signalling and overhead electrification systems, schedules and packages of work. Contractors are expected to be awarded work in 2025.
Now is the perfect time for construction, civil engineering and rail Project Directors, Risk Managers, Project Managers and Project Controls professionals, and related specialist engineering and construction professionals to join the project to work with both the client team and the consortia intending to bid, win and deliver this exciting work that is likely run until around 2032.
Responsibilities and Duties
The Project Director for Go Expansion OnCorr works will be expected to:
- Lead, oversee, and resource this large-scale capital infrastructure project (and any other other assigned projects), through design, procurement, and construction phases.
- Develop and nurture strong working relationships with partners and stakeholders and negotiate cross-divisionally and externally
- Establish benchmarks, goals, and objectives that reflect corporate strategy and direction, including appropriate metrics, monitoring systems, and reporting
- Build strong relationships with supply chain partners and deliver strong commercial outcomes in a collaborative manner
- Monitor project staff performance to ensure excellence and adherence to specified deadlines
- Lead the tracking, monitoring, and reporting on performance against project requirements, schedule, milestones, budgets, quality measures, and KPIs, and addressing of issues with corrective actions as appropriate
- Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies and contingency plans
- Be responsible for the safe execution of rail and infrastructure projects and programs across their full life cycle. This includes on-time Project Delivery package scopes, including planning, design, procurement, delivery, and implementation of the traditionally or modern procured project(s)
- Champion the planning, design, procurement, delivery, and implementation of major rail projects
- Identify, and mitigate risks, and develop opportunities for higher value or acceleration
Desired Skills and Experience
Suitable construction Project Director candidates will have a minimum of around 18 years of experience in related rail infrastructure Project Management construction work. In addition, the ideal Project Director will have:
- Extensive experience of financial management, procurement, financial planning, overall business planning, estimating, cost, and contingency control
- Expertise in leading change and ensuring effective risk management analysis, status reporting and issues management processes are in place
- Be able to demonstrate an ability to build and maintain internal and external strategic relationships
- Show an expert knowledge of project and program management principles and practices
- Have extensive experience in progressively more senior project leadership roles, proven experience leading large complex infrastructure projects from conception to construction completion. Experience in the rail transportation / transportation / mobility industry in either the public or private sector is an asset
- Able to demonstrate an expert grasp of prevailing Project Management methods
- Possessing an in-depth understanding of tools and metrics needed to evaluate project performance
- Proficient in Project Management software and advanced skills in Microsoft Office
- Demonstrable ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment by ensuring effective teamwork, promotion of innovation, and overall excellence
- Proven success in providing effective leadership by building and motivating teams to meet project goals and adhere to their responsibilities and project milestones
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
- Project Director candidates are expected to hold a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of construction or civil engineering
- A recognized Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is highly desirable
- Professional Engineering (PEng or CEng), or Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) accreditation is also advantageous.
