Managing Quantity Surveyor
A new Managing Quantity Surveyor vacancy with a leading UK based civil engineering and rail main contractor to work on JV High Speed 2 HS2 project in London. Managing Quantity Surveyor will be providing commercial support to the project team, maintaining commercial information and ensuring compliance with contractual requirements.
Project Details
The main responsibility of a Managing Quantity Surveyor will be to maximize and protect the company’s commercial position by management of the commercial and administrative functions in respect of a project and provision of commercial support and guidance at various phases of a project as required.
Managing Quantity Surveyor will be reporting to the Commercial Manager.
This QS employer is delivering the HS2 Main Civils Contracts for Tunnels & Approaches in the London area. The scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), sprayed concrete lining (SCL) tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
Responsibilities and Duties
The Managing Quantity Surveyor duties and responsibilities will involve:
- Support in developing the Target Price
- Maintenance of Register of Contractor’s people, grades, timesheets
- Monthly Payment applications
- Preparation of Commercial documentation and agreements
- Cost and Value management
- Preparation, maintenance and agreement of Project accounts
- Provision of commercial and financial reporting information
- Ensure compliance with Project standards and procedures in respect of Commercial activities
- Subcontract procurement and management
- Ensure compliance to Fair Payment Charter, reporting and performance
- Claims management including formal preparation and negotiation
- Control of project documentation and records
- Management and recording of changes
- Management of commercial staff
- Ensure compliance with insurance claim procedure and handle insurance claims
- Liaison with Commercial and Technical Staff
Desired Skills and Experience
- Relevant commercial experience preferably with a contracting organisation
- Demonstrable subcontract management of NEC 3 Contracts in excess of £10m
- Practical approach, logical thought process and a methodical way of working
- A creative, strategic and innovative approach to problem-solving
- Extensive experience of drafting effective contractual correspondence and the facilitation of collaborative solutions
- Demonstrable financial and commercial acumen
- Strong analytical skills
- Demonstrable legal, contractual and construction knowledge and experience
- Confidence and ability to assert influence
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
- Degree or equivalent level qualification in Quantity Surveying or related construction subject
- Chartered status with the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or Institute of Civil Engineering Surveyors (CICES) is desirable or working towards approved training scheme for membership / full Chartered status
- Relevant CSCS Card
