A Design Quality Manager job is available in Toronto to work on major infrastructure and transportation projects.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provide Quality Systems leadership using the ISO 9001 Standard as the basis for process development and optimization, procedure development, data collection and reporting and Quality Systems training.
  • Interface at senior and executive levels with regard to ISO 9000 process improvement and reengineering
  • Develop and maintain Quality Policy, Processes, Procedures and related documents.
  • Review Quality Manuals, documents, and implementation procedures to verify compliance with industry codes and standards, regulations and regulatory commitments
  • Participate in Client pre-bid, bid or contract planning and preparation
  • Plan and execute required audit activities (schedules, plans, reports, finding resolutions, etc.)
  • Perform and adequately documents Internal Quality Audits of assigned office, projects and job sites, and manages all related follow-up activities. Audits conducted to assure compliance with appropriate standards, contract requirements, and applicable codes, specifications and drawings, including but not limited to: Design, Engineering, Estimating, Procurement, Project Controls, Vendor/Subcontractor
  • Facilitate all internal and external Quality audits and briefs management with the results
  • Effectively document, follow-up and close corrective actions - both internal and external.
  • Analyze findings/ issues/ non-conformances identified during audits to determine program quality and identify performance trends. Analysis to include all available oversight results, both internal and external, and trending data
  • Handle qualification audits of suppliers of purchased items and services
  • Assure audited activities meet the quality program, and Client quality requirements
  • Perform quality engineering reviews of design documentation for compliance with stated requirements, including vendor quality manuals and company quality records
  • Promote safety awareness including adhering to safety rules and requirements.
  • Participate, as needed, in safety field audits and assessments
  • Review from a quality perspective (and approves if required) documents prepared by internal or external organizations such as quality manuals and procedures, technical deliverables, test plans and procedures, purchase orders, and subcontracts
  • Collaborate with management for interface on Quality activities with internal or external organizations (customers, suppliers, subcontractors, and others)

Desired Skills and Experience

  • A minimum of around 12 years of related work experience combined Engineering and Quality, including around 5 years’ experience in Quality management
  • A proven track record in managing quality within complex projects
  • Expertise in ISO 9001 Standards for Quality Systems
  • Experience conducting comprehensive audits with a keen eye for detail
  • Quality Systems Expertise: Champion the development and optimization of Quality Systems using ISO 9001 Standards. Engage with senior management on process improvements and reengineering efforts
  • Policy Development: Craft and maintain comprehensive project Quality Policies, Processes, Procedures, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements
  • Audit Mastery: Plan and execute detailed audits across various project phases to ensure compliance with standards and contract requirements. Manage follow-up activities for internal audits, ensuring corrective actions are effectively implemented.

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

  • Degree in Civil Engineering
  • PEng preferred
  • Lead Auditor certification (ISO 9001 or equal)
  • Membership of a nationally recognized Quality organization.
  • Other related certifications may include but are not limited to: Design Quality experience; Systems Quality experience; Possesses working knowledge of more than one area of industry such as infrastructure, government, aviation, process, or transportation
  • Canadian Citizenship or the current right to work in Canada is desirable although visas can be obtained for strong candidates with good international experience on major projects
