Project Details
The successful Cost Manager M&E candidate will support the delivery of major traditional building projects, with work focused on Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) building services.
Project sectors include healthcare facilities, large commercial developments, high-rise residential schemes and complex data centres. Individual project values range from small specialist packages through to flagship developments of up to CAD $1bn in total value.
Responsibilities and Duties
This is a technically focused cost management role within an established buildings cost consultancy team, working predominantly in the pre-contract phase.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Preparing detailed M&E cost plans, estimates and budgets for large-scale building projects
- Undertaking elemental and detailed cost analysis for both mechanical and electrical services
- Managing multiple projects simultaneously while meeting strict internal deadlines
- Providing cost advice during concept, schematic and detailed design stages
- Reviewing designs, specifications and drawings to identify cost risks and opportunities
- Producing tender documentation and supporting procurement strategies where required
- Evaluating tender returns and preparing cost reports for internal use
- Working closely with internal cost management and engineering teams
- Maintaining accurate cost data and benchmarks for future projects
Desired Skills and Experience
This role would suit an experienced Senior Cost Manager or Senior Quantity Surveyor with strong technical M&E capability.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- Approximately 10 years’ experience in cost management or quantity surveying
- Proven experience covering both mechanical and electrical building services
- Strong background in traditional building projects such as healthcare, commercial or residential developments
- Extensive pre-contract cost planning experience
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and competing deadlines
- High attention to detail and strong analytical skills
- Experience working in a technical, non-client-facing role environment
- Confidence working on large, complex projects, including projects of very high value
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
- Degree in Quantity Surveying, Cost Management, Project Management or a related construction discipline
- Professional accreditation or working towards professional membership is desirable (RICS, CIQS, etc.)
