Cost Consultant
A fantastic opportunity for a Cost Consultant to join a premium independent cost consultancy based in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. The successful candidate will assist senior colleagues in preparing construction cost estimates and delivering cost consultancy services for a range of building and infrastructure projects.
This hybrid role offers flexibility to work from home several days a week and is ideal for an ambitious Quantity Surveyor or Cost Consultant seeking to grow within a supportive, client-focused business. Working closely with a Senior Cost Consultant, you will receive mentoring and professional guidance, with a clear path for progression towards senior and chartered status through RICS or CIQS membership.
Project Details
The Cost Consultant will work under the guidance of a Senior Cost Consultant, contributing to the preparation of construction cost estimates and reports across multiple design and construction stages. Projects include both building and infrastructure schemes across the region.
Hybrid working is available, typically 2 to 3 days from home per week, with additional office time expected initially to become familiar with systems and company procedures.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Assist with pre-contract cost management tasks and feasibility estimates
- Support the Senior Cost Consultant in the preparation of detailed cost plans
- Contribute to the development of tender documentation and pre-tender estimates
- Collect and analyse cost data from suppliers, contractors, and consultants
- Help prepare cost reports and financial updates for clients
- Assist with change order reviews and cost variation assessments
- Participate in value engineering exercises and life cycle cost evaluations
- Liaise with project stakeholders as required under the guidance of senior team members
Desired Skills and Experience
- Previous experience as a Junior or Assistant Quantity Surveyor, Cost Consultant, or Estimator within the construction sector
- Good understanding of cost estimating principles and construction processes
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365; experience using Bluebeam is an asset
- Strong numerical and analytical ability with keen attention to detail
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- Self-motivated, organised, and eager to learn in a collaborative environment
- Desire to progress professionally and work towards chartership or senior status
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
- A degree or technical diploma in Quantity Surveying, Cost Estimating, or a related construction discipline is preferred
- Working towards or planning to obtain professional membership such as RICS, CIQS, or PQS
