Construction Inspector job vacancy to be based Vancouver and Lower Mainland area. To work for a growing construction engineering consultancy team specialising in highways, bridges and civil infrastructure. An exciting in house permanent role based in the Vancouver and Lower Mainland area on an ongoing basis.
Project Details
An exciting Construction Inspector job based in the Vancouver area to work on both live projects and to assist with constructability assessments for future projects in the planning stages.
Your initial project, to run for around 3 years, is to be the Construction Inspector / Field Supervisor on a major highway project that is starting construction in the Lower Mainland, less than an hour from downtown Vancouver. You will be site based and will visit head office in downtown Vancouver as required.
This Construction Inspector job is a full time, permanent position with all the benefits of being permanently based in Vancouver and of being part of a premium engineering and project management team.
Job scope will be to both develop and deliver on site civil engineering infrastructure projects in the Vancouver region.
Responsibilities and Duties
As Construction Inspector your job duties will comprise:
- Contract administration and to undertake on-site construction supervision and inspections
- Prepare daily inspection reports, prepare and approve monthly progress payments and undertake other associated Contract Administration tasks
- Monitor and report on the quality, quantity and progress of construction activities
- Demonstrate your familiarity with construction specifications, requirements and progress reporting in your daily work
- Review materials testing results and outcomes as required and communicate key information to Project Managers, Contractors and others related to the project
- Review contractor’s submissions and provide recommendations for their further handling
- Attend on site progress meetings with clients, contractors and their sub-contractors
- Able to understand the hazards and safe work procedures for each task
- Report inspection issues to senior supervisor for action
- Understand and fulfil responsibilities relating to the company Quality Management System, ISO 9001 and of course all client quality, safety, and environmental management systems
Desired Skills and Experience
Suitable Construction Inspector / Field Supervisor candidates will have gained at least 3+ years of highways, roads & bridge experience on site.
Experience of working on British Columbia Ministry of Transportation or other Provincial government projects is highly desirable.
- Highways/roads/bridges experience is essential
- Experience gained can be with either a consultant or a General Contractor
- Experience of preparing daily inspection reports, & monthly resource planning
- Experience of having monitored and reported on the quality, quantity and progress of construction activities
- Able to demonstrate a familiarity with construction specifications, requirements and progress reporting
- Have experience of reviewing materials testing results and outcomes
- Have experience attending site progress meetings with clients, contractors and their sub-contractors
- Able to understand the hazards and safe work procedures for each task
- Experienced in the understanding and fulfilling of responsibilities relating to the company Quality Management System, ISO 9001 and of course all client quality, safety, and environmental management systems
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
- Site based experience and some experience of assessing and improving constructability of projects is more important than a specific qualification.
- A Construction Management or Engineering qualification would be advantageous.
- A clean driving record is essential as is the ability to comply with client D&A testing requirements

- Generous basic salary of cCAD$100,000 to $120,000 (dependant on experience)
