Claims Consultant
Claims Consultant jobs are available to be based out of the London office of this national and international construction claims consultancy.
The team works within the fields of construction claims management within a broader construction dispute resolution division.
Your role will focus within the specialist construction claims team, which works on construction claims arising across the UK and also on international construction projects.
The role would suit a Quantity Surveyor who has had some good exposure to handling claims in their current role and enjoys dealing with construction disputes.
This job would be a fantastic opportunity for candidates who want to make the move into a specialist claims and disputes career.
You will work in a specialist claims and disputes division of the business and be given regular assignments which will develop and enhance you claims experience. You will work alongside a number of nationally recognised claims and disputes experts. As a result, guidance, training and professional development and progression will be available in abundance.
Project Details
The portfolio of claims and related dispute work undertaken include a range of civil and building projects located in the UK as well as a range of expert service assignments based in a range of international locations.
Building construction claims and dispute resolution work is often on major retail and health related projects.
Civil engineering construction claims work is often focused on major rail construction projects and also infrastructure construction and upgrade work for roads and utilities/water projects.
On rare occasions some limited and very short-term international travel to visit projects or attend high level meetings may be necessary for large building or civil engineering claim assignments.
Responsibilities and Duties
The Claims Consultant job duties include:
- Joining a construction claims team on a variety of assignments
- Presenting research findings orally and in written form to colleagues, lawyers and senior client representatives with natural gravitas
- Offering advice on a range of national and international construction contract forms to clients and the process and procedures relating to them that are available to pursue or rebut a claim
- Applying robust and methodical analytical skills to all aspects of the construction claims work, and adopting a flexible and adaptable approach to problems encountered and to client requests
- Showing the ability to work alone with minimal supervision to a high standard, but also able to integrate and support dispute team members and collaborate to complete complex tasks under tight time deadlines
- Ability to provide claims consultancy advice on live contracts and projects in distress to a high professional standard
- Able to deploy a broad range of prior experience from a variety construction sectors to the construction claim issues under consideration
Desired Skills and Experience
Previous Claims Experience required includes:
- Strong and transferrable experience of working as a contractor's Project Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor is preferred, with particular reference to having worked on claims matters arising as a result of having managed a significantly sized contract from commencement to final account, and with involvement in the claims preparation process throughout the duration and completion of contracted works.
- Experience of working in or with / in association with a construction claims team working on a particular client claims assignment
- Able to offer advice on either or both of JCT and NEC construction contract forms to clients and the process and procedures relating to them that are available to pursue or rebut a claim
- Experience of applying robust and methodical analytical skills, while adopting a flexible and adaptable approach to problems and client requests
- Experience and ability to work alone with minimal supervision to a high standard, and to collaborate to complete complex tasks under tight time deadlines
- Ability to provide claims consultancy advice on live contracts and projects in distress to a high professional standard
- Able to deploy a broad range of prior experience from a variety construction sectors to the construction claim issues under consideration
- Candidates from a main contractor or sub-contractor background would be advantageous
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
- A Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering or Cost Management degree is preferred
