About Civil Engineers

Civil Engineering is one of the oldest branches of engineering, yet still a key component in the construction industry. Civil Engineers are paramount to the building and maintenance of our modern world. Buildings, infrastructure and facilities are essential elements for our society and it is Civil Engineers that help build, maintain and fix the construction around us.

The Civil Engineer can work as a consultant or contractor. As consultant, the role involves designing the format and configuring the associated structures, whereas the contractor Civil Engineer will use these models to manage structures in situ. Construction projects can range across all construction sectors and the Civil Engineer will conceptualise, draw up plans and manage the construction scheme at hand. There are many sub-roles within Civil Engineering and specialisation is usual but dependent on experience. Geotechnical, Water, Construction and Management, Structural and Architectural Engineer are all possible sub-careers a Civil Engineer may choose.
